As an organization that has been touching the lives of students for more than 40 years, we can safely say that we have reached several thousand individuals. Some of our alums have gone on to careers in music performance and education, many have gone into the ever-important STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) fields, and at least one has become a famous television star.
While it is always interesting to find out what our YPP friends are up to, we want to take this opportunity to ask for even more feedback from you. Studies are showing that exposure to music, a music education and playing a musical instrument can have far-reaching and measurable positive effects, so we want to know what role music has played in your life.
Does it help you relieve stress? Express yourself? Make friends? Think and communicate creatively? If playing an instrument has made your life better, we want to hear about it.
Another way we have brought our bigger alumni community closer was an exciting alumni reading event. During the 2015 Holiday season, 39 years of former students played in a reading orchestra conducted by our very own Jerry Bidlack. Some folks may not have played for a while, but it was just like riding a bike when they revisited “Bald Mountain” and “Sleigh Ride” in front of their delighted families and friends.
We hope to hold more such events in the future, so dust off your instrument and keep your eyes open for details. We can’t wait to see you again!
