As an organization that has been touching the lives of students for almost 40 years, we can safely say that we have reached several thousand individuals. Some of our alums have gone on to careers in music performance and education, many have gone into the ever-important STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) fields, and at least one has become a famous television star.
While it is always interesting to find out what our YPP friends are up to, we want to take this opportunity to ask for even more feedback from you. Studies are showing that exposure to music, a music education and playing a musical instrument can have far-reaching and measurable positive effects, so we want to know what role music has played in your life.
Does it help you relieve stress? Express yourself? Make friends? Think and communicate creatively? If playing an instrument has made your life better, we want to hear about it.
Another way we want to bring our bigger alumni community closer is with an exciting new plan to host an alumni reading event. During the 2015 Holiday season, 39 years of former students will be invited to play in a reading orchestra conducted by our very own Jerry Bidlack. You may not have played for a while, but it’s just like riding a bike. Wouldn’t it be fun to revisit “Bald Mountain” or “Sleigh Ride”? Now you can! We’ll rehearse in the afternoon and perform a short concert, so bring your family and friends.
Dust off your instrument and keep your eyes open for details. We can’t wait to see you there!
